It's that time of year when everyone starts to look at themselves and kid themselves into thinking that giving something up for the new year will make them feel better about themselves. I've never been one for that myself, you can't polish a turd, but I am perfectly willing to steal someone else's idea. My friend Alex is doing 13 resolutions for 2013, so I have stolen/tweaked this idea and I will be giving doing 13 'challenges' for 2013.
Now, these may not be challenges for most normal people, but they will be for me. Mainly because I'm a miserable, unsociable sod.
13 Facebook Recommendations:
I shall be picking 13 Facebook friends at random, over the course of the year, and asking them to recommend a film/dvd/book/cd that I otherwise wouldn't normally bother with. I will then review them, probably on this very blog.
13 Recipes:
I do most of the cooking in the house, but it's usually pretty basic and pretty lazy. So this challenge is to cook 13 different recipes from scratch, using only fresh ingredients. Making them actually edible might be a challenge for 2014.
13 Meals Out:
The challenge here is that I'm a fussy eater. Rediculously so, I'm like a child. I can't eat anything with tomatoes, onions, peppers, coconut and frankly the list goes on and on. So eating out is a nightmare because there is usually only one thing on the menu I'd eat. So Katie is going to pick 13 restaurants, and we are going to go. I'm just going to have to be a brave little soldier about the entire thing.
13 Random Acts of kindness:
Pretty self explanatory this one. In other words, I've no idea what these random acts will be... but when I do them, this will be the place to read about them.
13 Letters:
Over the year, I'll send 13 handwritten letters to people. It's a dying art and everyone likes post that isn't a bill, right?
13 Blogs per month:
I've started a few blogs over the years, but I never stick with them. This challenge is to combat that, and if I stick to doing the rest of the challenges, I'll have plenty to write about.
13 Family days out:
A good way to get Katie and Ethan involved in this project. Not sure what these days out will be beyond a Tranmere match, a visit to the zoo and a return trip to Blackpool, so I'm open to suggestions.
13 New Foods:
Linked to my 'not liking loads of food' problem, I'm going to try new things. A probably react like those people on 'Freaky Eaters' that have only ever eaten crisps trying a grape for the first time. Certainly blogs to look forward too!
£13 for Charity per month:
Giving a little bit back. I'll donate to any friends raising money for charity's I like. If nobody is fund raising in any given month, I'll pick a random Just Giving page of a total stranger.
13/30 Autographs:
Slightly more unusual this one, the challenge is to write to 30 famous people to ask for their autograph, and see if I can get 13 back.
13 (minimum) Postcrossing:
I'd not heard of this site until Alex recommended it for a challenge yesterday, but it looks brilliant. Basically, you can send postcards to random people all over the world, and your postcard has been received, you address goes to someone and they send you a card. My challenge is to receive at least 13 cards in 2013.
If you want to get involved yourself, have a look at Postcrossing.com
13 (minimum) Geocaches:
Similar to the above challenge I want to find at least 13 Geocaches in 2013. Ideally I'll combine them with the days out so it's something I can do with Ethan. If you want to know more about Geocaching, have a look at Geocaching.com
13 @Replies or Retweets from famous people:
Yeah okay... I admit it, this one is a bit crap I know, but I've got to have something that I can do while sitting on my arse, it's playing to my strengths.
The rules for this are, I'm not allowed to ask for a retweet (because I'm not a teenage girl) and the definition of 'famous' is that they have their own Wikipedia page.
It all starts on 1st January 2013, so watch this space. All abuse can be directed to me on Facebook or Twitter.
